Euronews: Moldovan authorities agree to vote recount after protests

Violent protests in Moldova are reported to have pushed authorities to agree to a vote recount from Sunday’s disputed parliamentary election. But opposition parties say only a new election can resolve the dispute. One young woman is reported to have died in the clashes. About 10,000 demonstrators brought their fury over what they say is a fraudulent Communist victory to the capital’s government buildings. Most of the protesters are students who see no future if the Communists keep their grip on the ex- Soviet state of 4 million. The Communist party led by President Voronin scored a big victory in the poll. Parliament elects the president and it appeared the communists had won enough seats to choose their own candidate.
