Euronews: Moldovan authorities agree to vote recount after protests
Violent protests in Moldova are reported to have pushed authorities to agree to a vote recount from Sunday’s disputed parliamentary election. But opposition parties say only a new election can resolve the dispute. One young woman is reported to have died in the clashes. About 10,000 demonstrators brought their fury over what they say is a fraudulent Communist victory to the capital’s government buildings. Most of the protesters are students who see no future if the Communists keep their grip on the ex- Soviet state of 4 million. The Communist party led by President Voronin scored a big victory in the poll. Parliament elects the president and it appeared the communists had won enough seats to choose their own candidate. Earlier in the day protesters overwhelmed riot police and ransacked the parliament burning some its contents and raided the President’s offices.video: http://www.euronews.net/2009/04/07/moldovan-authorities-agree-to-vote-recount-after-protests/
