The Belgian Grand Prix has been withdrawn from the 2006 calendar, Formula One's ruling body announced on Wednesday. The place of the Spa-Francorchamps race on the calendar had been in doubt for some time following problems with the promoters of the events. Although a deal had not been reached to solve the problems, Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone said last month he was confident the situation would be resolved. The FIA said, however, that the race will not take place in 2006."The Belgian National Sporting Authority, the RACB, has written to notify the FIA of the withdrawal of the 2006 Belgian Grand Prix from the FIA Formula One World Championship," the FIA said in a statement. "The withdrawal has been made in order to allow the completion of extensive improvement work to facilities at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit."The FIA hopes that the event will be included once again in the Formula One World Championship calendar from 2007 onwards."The race was due to take place on September 17.
