The goal is toaddress complex issues related to sustainability through innovativesystems integration (i.e., integration of multiple disciplinesincluding both social and natural sciences, such as ecology, humandemography, and socioeconomics). Specific objectives are to conductcutting- edge research on emerging issues related to ecologicalsustainability at local, national, and international levels; train newgenerations of leaders for sustainability research, education, andpractice; and disseminate research findings across the globe. Exampletopics of research include sustainability theory, methods, andapplications (e.g. sustainable management of nature reserves as wellas ecosystem good and services); ecological effects of householddynamics; human-environment interactions; coupled human and naturalsystems; biodiversity conservation; integration of ecology with humandemography and socioeconomics; agent-based modeling; and scenariosimulation.The Center invites applications from highly-motivated individuals tofill the following positions and make contributions to achieving asustainable Earth:(1) Associate Director (Assistant/Associate Professor). The successfulcandidate will assist the Director in all aspects of activities,including research, education, outreach, and administration. Theposition is renewable every five years with recurring funds from theOffice of the Provost. The candidates should have a Ph.D. in arelevant field to ecological sustainability (such as ecology,sociology,economics, human demography, remote sensing, geography, andnatural resource management), strong research records, experience inoutreach, and excellent administrative skills.2) Academic Specialist. This position will provide support in computerhardware, software, programming, data analysis, and databasemanagement for research and outreach programs. Experience with remotesensing, geographic information systems, and spatial database isrequired. Master's Degree with background in computer science (or arelated field) with previous natural resources/ecology as well asthree to five years of related and progressively more responsible orexpansive work experience are preferred.(3) Administrative Assistant. The duties include financial management,proposal preparation, manuscript editing, and other relatedadministrative activities.(4) Postdoctoral Associate(s). Applicants should have Ph.D.s inrelevant fields and should be strongly interested in one or moreresearch topics mentioned above.(5) Graduate Student Assistant(s). Openings are available at the Ph.D.level. Applicants should have strong interests in one or more researchtopics mentioned above.Interested individuals should prepare (1) letter of interest, (2)resume, (3) description of professional experiences and goals, and (4)names and contact information of three references.
