Bogdan Barbu: Vin americanii S-a discutat mult in spatiul public romanesc de dupa decembrie 1989 despre fenomenul vin americanii, imprimat in memoria colectiva a unei generatii care a trait drama comunizarii tarii. Speranta ca americanii vor veni si vor elibera Europa de Est a insufletit milioane de oameni din Romania si din intreaga regiune ocupata de Armata Rosie. Cartea vorbeste despre fenomenul vin americanii, dar incearca sa faca mai mult decit atit: sa arate ca acest fenomen a fost doar una dintre multele forme in care America a fost prezenta in Romania Razboiului Rece.Daca armata americana nu a venit in timpul Razboiului Rece, in schimb, ideologia libertatii, muzica, filmele, jeansii si mitul modului de viata american au reusit sa treaca de filtrele de cenzura ale Cortinei de Fier. Pe undele Vocii Americii si ale Europei Libere, prin schimburi culturale si comerciale si prin canale neoficiale, America a venit intr-un flux continuu catre romani si ceilalti est-europeni, contribuind la erodarea increderii in comunism.
