THE LANE KIRKLAND SCHOLARSHIPS 2006-2007Polish-American Freedom Foundation (Founder of the Program) andPolish-American Fulbright Commission (Program Administrator) announcean open competition for candidates from Ukraine, Belarus, Russia,Lithuania, Slovakia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan andMoldova for The Lane Kirkland Scholarships in the 2006-2007 academicyear.The purpose of the Lane Kirkland Scholarship Program is to sharePolish experiences in economic, social and political transformations,within the framework of a two-semester supplementary study program(for MA degree holders) in the Polish schools of higher education and2-4 week professional internships in governmental and privateinstitutions.FIELDS:" economics and management" public administration (including local government administration)" business administration" law" social and political sciencesCANDIDATES: The 2006/07 Kirkland scholarships are addressed toindividuals who are able to apply the knowledge and skills obtained inPoland to economic, social and democratic changes in their homecountries, and who represent the following professional groups:" academic teachers, researchers" civil servants, politicians, experts and employees of central andlocal government institutions" entrepreneurs, managers" leaders of non-governmental organizations, animators in culture andcivic activity" journalistsELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Citizenship and permanent residence in one ofthe ten targeted countries (individuals with a permanent residencecard in Poland are ineligible)" Master's degree" Up to 35 years of age (in special cases up to 40)" Polish language proficiency sufficient to effectively attendlectures and seminars (alternatively English - for those candidateswho select a specific study program in English)" Minimum 2 years of professional experiencePREFERENCES:" candidates actively working in their professional and social fields" candidates who have significant achievements in one of the fieldslisted above" candidates who have not studied in Poland yetSELECTION PROCESS: Approximately 50 best individuals will be selectedin a 3-stage evaluation process of candidates:1. Review of applications with regard to eligibility criteria2. Review of candidates' proposed projects of study by independentexperts3. InterviewsThe candidates advanced to the third stage will be notified by e-mailor phone. Information on the final nominations will be mailed to thecandidates in the middle of May.REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:1. Application forma) detailed personal questionnaire with 1 current photograph of thecandidate b) proposed program of study in Poland explaining theintention to participate in the Program and including the future plansconnected with its completion (up to 2 pages) c) Curriculum Vitae (CV)including a list of publications (a copy of one publication can beattached to the application; candidates not engaged in researchactivity should send a list of work accomplishments and outstandingachievements, realized goals and projects as well as copies ofsupporting documents (if available).2. Two letters of reference describing the achievements and thequalifications of the candidate as well as the expectations connectedwith the candidate's further development and work in the chosenprofession (in Polish, English or Russian). Letters of reference mustbe sent directly to the Polish - U.S. Fulbright Commission by personsrecommending the candidates.3. Copy of DiplomaFINANCIAL INFORMATION: Monthly installment paid to Kirkland granteesin Polish currency: 1 700 PLN (approx. USD 500). In addition, thescholarship covers the following costs: university fees;accommodation; insurance; one return ticket to Poland; publictransportation tickets; purchase of research materials. Laptopcomputers and printers, provided to the grantees for the period ofscholarship, can become the property of the grantees only after allthe scholarship program requirements have been fulfilled.SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:" Orientation (10 days)" Classes at universities in the leading Polish academic centers, suchas Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Lublin, Wroclaw (two semesters)" Preparation of two semester papers and one diploma paper" Integration seminars for all Kirkland grantees - presentation ofgrantees' experiences" Professional internship (2-4 weeks) upon completion of the academicprogram" Closing ceremony - final diplomasAPPLICATION DEADLINE: The deadline for receiving applications: 15March 2006.
